In It’s Hard to Talk About…, five justice-impacted storytellers share narratives from individuals who are currently or formerly incarcerated, as well as their friends and family, and other people affected by and working in and around the criminal legal system. With storytelling, Freedom & Captivity collective aims to challenge oversimplified public narratives about crime and punishment.

This performance features mature topics and adult language. It includes graphic descriptions of physical, mental, verbal, and sexual abuse, death/dying, drugs/alcohol/substance abuse, and brutality by prison guards.

This live performance was filmed on November 8th at The Grand Theater in Ellsworth, ME, as part of the Freedom & Justice Summit. Our gratitude to the festival organizers and theater for hosting us.

We hope you’ll join us on Wednesday, January 14th!
