Please join Restorative Justice Project Maine and Friends of Lithgow Library on September 15th, 5:30-6:30pm, for this special program!

Restorative Justice is a transformative tool that empowers everyone affected by crime to communicate and move forwards. The Restorative Justice Project (RJP) Maine has a rich history dating back to 2005. Their programs and trainings cater to parties causing harm, those harmed, schools, educational institutions, and the wider community. They believe that everyone can benefit from and contribute to restorative practices.

This program is inspired by this year’s A Capital Read: How to Read a Book by Monica Woods. How to Read a Book explores explores the themes of incarceration of women, forgiveness, kindness, and the human desire for connection. A Capital Read is a “one book” community read project spearheaded by Lithgow Library and sponsored by the Friends of Lithgow Library. Lithgow Library offers this program to:

• Deepen the appreciation for literature through reading, discussion, activities and events related to our chosen title
• Enhance the feeling of community in our diverse city, and
• Demonstrate the power of libraries to bring people together
